The Dirty Picture nears the end

Milan Luthria promises to announce the remainder cast of Once Upon A Time in Mumbai 2 by end-October, “We wrap the shoot of The Dirty Picture by the end of September after which I will focus on the sequel of OUATIM.”

Given the enormous excitement that the trailer of The Dirty Picture has already created, industry folks are wondering if a sequel will be in the offing. “It’s a bit early to think of a sequel,” he says. “If people find it uplifting, then I’ll be the first to jump at the opportunity. Balaji and I are not closed to the idea.”

When the film was announced long back, there was speculation about it being a serious biopic. The bold yet classy poster and trailer have strongly shattered that myth. “We worked incredibly hard on the first look of the film. As the film is mainstream and commercial in every respect, that had to come through in the poster and trailer,” says Milan.

With the shoot nearing completion, The Dirty Picture will shortly head into post-production to make it for a December release.

MAUSAM Movie Review
What you expect to be a timeless love story turns to be an endless episode in Pankaj Kapur's Mausam . Kapur uses actual unlucky events from shared riots to terrorist attacks as the background to represent changing periods of love in his coming of age love story. And the lethargic story makes an effort to push itself 'only' during these hardships. So you are so disillusioned after a point that you hopelessly pray for another catastrophe to strike and thereby end your chaos.

The story starts in early 90s when Aayat (Sonam Kapoor) greeneries behind her home in Kashmir (following the unrest in valley) and lands at a relation's place in Punjab. Village boy Harry (Shahid Kapoor) falls head over repairs for her but fate has some dissimilar plans. Post the Babri Masjid demolition, Aayat moves to an unknown terminus. Fate reunites them after seven years in Scotland when Harry has turned an air-force pilot.
Inappropriately Kargil war splits them again where Harry is bid in the line of duty. Unable to trace each other post the war, the two pine for each other for years.
Pankaj Kapur kicks-off the film on a talented note in the unspoiled Punjab village, tapping the raw and young energy of Shahid Kapur, who races together with a speeding train in a roofless impala, living life on the edge. Love blossoms between the lead pair amidst the traditional setting of an in-house Punjabi wedding, and though we have seen that hundred times before on screen, you still somehow like the innocence of the 90s amorousness that the director captures elegantly.

Undoubtedly Mausam is marred by its inexorable length and could have been much crunchier, considering what it actually serves in its three-hour runtime is too shallow in comparison. Other than that, it boasts of a decent soundtrack, courtesy Pritam and striking photography by Binod Pradhan.

On the presentation front, Sonam Kapoor is merely passable and lacks the range to handle a character which spans a decade and demands varied emotions. So it's left up to Shahid Kapur to save the ship, which he capably does. He shows immense deftness in pulling off the wide range of variable conduct, mannerisms and maturity that his charm demands. He is charming as the community boy, suave as the pilot and intense as the bereaved lover. Aditi Sharma is remarkable in her short role consuming negative shades. Supriya Pathak and Manoj Pahwa are decent. Anupam Kher is hardly there.

Mausam
starts off with the enjoyable freshness of any new season but stretches so long that you yearn for the onset of the next season.

Big B injured, fans sends recovery wishes

While gunfire an action sequence for Ramgopal Varma’s   “Department”, Amitabh Bachchan hurt a minor injury. Big B tweeted about the event, "A minor incident on the set during a semi-action sequence got hit on rib cage, some damage inside, pain on breathing, bearable. Guess it's the season for injuries... first Abhishek, now moi... happens... will repair on its own said doc."
No sooner Big B posted the news, he was bombarded with concerned messages, Bachchan tweeted: "People of Twitterworld, relax, should never have mentioned... just an accidental hit by either an elbow or the butt of a carbine."
Some fans pray for his speedy recovery while some lashes out at RGV for asking him to shoot an action scene at this age.
A fan tweeted: "RGV crazy to ask you to do a action sequence. Do not test your body, Amitabh Ji. Hope it heals soon."
In the movie, Bachchan plays a gangster-turned-politician role.
Varma said, "I really didn't know about this till I read his tweets. He shot with me for over an hour after he hurt himself." He later tweeted to Big B: "O hell, Sarkar, and you never told me about this."

MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN

MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN isn't stale or corny, but it's humble and truthful, so much so that this could be the story of somebody you know. Thanks to a well-directed cast, glittering script and a glowing soundtrack, this is easily one of the most cheering movies from the foremost production house.
Kush [Imran Khan] is looking for the perfect Indian bride for his brother Luv [Ali Zafar], who halts in London. In his quest, Kush goes through an array of crazy meetings with several families until he finally discoveries that faultless girl in Dimple [Katrina Kaif], the silliest / craziest girl he has ever known.
Both the relations meet. Bureaucracies are completed. Arrangements proceed in full slap. And just then Kush falls in love with Dimple... his brother's Dulhan.
On retrospection, if somebody were to tell you that the story of the film is about a guy who falls in love with the bride he has chosen for his brother, you'd expect lots of melodrama and an undercurrent of tension after a point in the narrative. I'd say, ignore all the nagging misconceptions or preconceived notions you may have had about MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN. Venture into the Cineplex with an open mind and trust me, as the reels unfold, you'll realize that the film is not like what you may have envisioned prior to its screening. It makes wonderful sense!
MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN
Most rom-coms follow the conventional route. You know how they start, what's in store in the middle and how they usually end. They don't really challenge the intellect, frankly. But there's a twist in the tale in MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN that catches you by surprise. Sure, it's about two guys liking the same girl -- a formula that's done to death -- but even if the theme has been used and re-used time and again, there's always scope that the next man who attempts it may treat it slightly differently. Thankfully, MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN has the conventional plot, but isn't conventional in the true sense. And it's definitely not the been-there-seen-that kind of a movie either.
On the flip side, MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN has its share of few predictable moments in its second hour. Actually, the graph of the film dips, albeit slightly, in the post-interval portions. The problem is, the first hour is so high on entertainment quotient that you expect the second hour to supersede the first by leaps and bounds. Lots seem to happen in the post-interval portions, but the episodes aren't as exciting as the first hour, which is why you feel the difference. However, the finale throws a new twist, which may appear stretched to some, but is likeable nonetheless.
First-time director Ali Abbas Zafar has complete grasp over the medium and has preserved each scene delightfully well. Besides, he has drawn admirable presentations from the principal characters. Treatment comic acts are one tough job, but Ali seems to have a flair for it. MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN has a winner of a soundtrack. Expectedly, the songs, composed by Sohail Sen, stress on the fun quotient that compliments the mood of this film. The songs are urbane-friendly, yet massy, with 'Dhunki', 'Choomantar', 'Madhubala' and the title track being excellent compositions. I would also like to make a special mention of the choreography of these songs [Bosco-Caesar]. It's truly eye-catching. Sudeep Chatterjee's cinematography is vibrant.

The performances are easy on the eyes. The unlikely chemistry between Katrina and Imran coupled with Ali Zafar's impeccable comic timing keeps you glued to the screen. Imran, frankly, seems the apt choice for this role and he more than lives up to it. Katrina is only getting better and more endearing with every release. Ali Zafar is a supremely talented actor and this film proves it yet again.
Tara D'Souza does a fine job. Parikshit Sahni and Kanwaljeet Singh are truly wonderful. The actor who plays Imran's friend is natural. John Abraham appears in a cameo.
On the whole, MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN is an attractively wholesome, heartening, feel-good entertainer. Not just a comedy, but also a tender, bittersweet saga, this rom-com is sure to melt your heart, then restore it anew all over again. Yet another winner from Yash Raj!
